10k or 14k gold flutes are really
expensive as we all know. Around $10,000. But $22,000?! i dunno if this
brand/type flute is the best in the world. Check it out, (its on ebay- follow
this link)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=10183
This person has been trying to sell it for a while but failed to receive any
bids. I guess he left the price high cause he wants to profit instead of losing
money due to ebay''s commision rate. Pro-flutes usually cost more than any
other instrument, which i find strange cause it is small compared to the other
wind instruments.

wow I can believe it. First off, its a
Burkart....expensive! Its made of platinum not gold, which is WAY more
expensive. Its gizmo's are expensive too ( c# triller ) and since its A is 442
it would only work well with an entire orch. or something that plays at 442
since most instruments are meant to be tuned at A=440. I would buy it if I had
$22,000

Well pricewise, u do see 14kt and 18kt
gold flutes for over $20,000, and secondly its platinum, a more expensive metal.
Personally, I would never buy a flute without playing it, especially off eBay,
even though they do have a site garantee. I don't think anyone looking for a
flute of that quality and value would even bother searching on eBay. All these
flutes on eBay appear to be amazing, but one would have to be extremely careful
buying such an expensive item off there. Anyway I'm sure it is a really
beautiful flute but I would prefer to play it safe. [8)]

oh, and Amber, with the tuning, its
quite normal for an intermediate or professional flute to be tuned to A=442. My
flute is and although I have to do a bit more adjusting when I occassionally
take it to school it sounds brilliant, and its an amazing solo instrument too.
Don't be put off by that style of tuning. My flute teacher has a German flute
and her flute is tuned to something like A=445 or it might be even more
different. Also, in different countries I've heard tuning is different. I'm
pretty sure its in Germany, that they play sharper in their orchestras than in
England. Anyway hope this has given some knowledge?!

about the tuning, my band does A=440 and
it is the standard which instruments are made, although they are definitly used
in proffessional orch. but for lower levels like highschool bands use 440 :)

Yes, there aren't many platinum flutes
about, but I personally have a 10kt gold, the purer gold and platinum flutes for
me have too dark a sound. A=442 is great. It's ok in Europe (except Germany &
other places), and ok, if you want to play at 440, you can still pull it out a
bit
