Help with a book?

Post by flutegeek1992 »

Hello--
I have the book "The Complete Piccolo", which list fingerings (many, alternate and traditional, trills), repetoire, and history. And, its very small and concise enough to fit in to my flute bag.

Is there such a book for flute?

I have two books that I like. They aren't very small but they have really good information.

How to play the Flute:Everything you need to know to play the flute by Howard Harrison

The Flute Book: A Complete Guide for Students and Performers by Nancy Toff

You can find Fingering charts that will fit in your folder but if you want more than that it is more than like not going to fit in your folder.

I'm not looking for just a normal fingering chart. I want something that has the alternates listed as well. That's what has been so useful to me in my pic book.

I have a book (not really small, about the size of most music books). A Modern Guide to Fingerings for the Flute by James Pellerite. If you want further flute fingerings, try Dick's-The Other Flute....it has multiphonics and quarter steps. All kinds of junk!!! I usually keep the Pellerite in my bag. However, it does not have a ton of alternate fingerings (ie. 4 for high C and 3 for high C#). It has Basic Fingerings, Harmonics, Trills (half and whole step), tremolos (M and m thirds, P4 and tritones, P5, 6th, 7th, and Octaves), Altered fingerings, Quarter-tones and Quarter-tone trills, and Multiphonics. If I need anything more then this, I just look online...but I don't have to do that often.
