Flute Summer Camp!

Post by aurumite »

Hi I want to go to a flute summer camp for summer 2010.

I am ABRSM grade 8, play in the top orchestra in my highschool (private), and have been playing for six/seven years.

I am considering Tanglewood, Interlochen, New England Conservatory, etc...
Other than that, somebody recommended smaller music camps, such as Kinhaven, Point Counterpoint, Sewanee Music Festival, Brevard music, and Chautauqua summer music...

Anybody know which ones are hard to get in, and if they are experiences for flute playing? Also, will these camps impress college admission officers?

Thankx XP

Interlochen's camp will be easier to get into than Tanglewood's. They accept a lot more people. Tanglewood is really hard to get into. At best they only accept 6-8 flutists in the entire country. I auditioned for Tanglewood one year and was rejected. Instead of emailing the results, the head of the admissions board called me. He said that in terms of playing and my audition, I had been accepted. It was just when the admissions board saw that I had just turned 18 that I was rejected in favor of accepting someone younger.

With Interlochen, as far as I have heard from people I know, as long as you have the money to do it, and your audition isn't totally awful, you could probably get in.
