Hey everyone! I have a significant problem. I recently got
braces and it is majorly affecting my playing. I can play lower notes ok,
because the embouchure is not as tight. But when I have to really tighten up my
embouchure I can barely squeak out a high G. It is very frustrating to me, and I
hope I won't have to stop playing for the 2+ years that I have the braces on.
If anyone has had a similar problem or can help me any anyway, I would *really*
appreciate your help. Thanks so much-

Braces!
Hi, I have never had braces but I have read that they make a
special wax that you can use if you continue to have problems. It might be worth
checking out. Kim

Braces!
hey lyndsey, braces...ugh...i remember going through that in
high school. unfortunately/fortunately i had a set of 3 concerts that i had to
perform 2 days after i got them on and had to play piccolo of course all in the
third octave, blah. however, i did get used them REALLY quick. i did use wax a
little bit, but i found it more annoying then helpful. my best suggestion is to
try and play as much as you can to get used to them. yeah, it is painful and you
may shed some tears, but you'll definately get used to it [:)] as a matter of
fact, i cried when my braces came off because i got so used to them i sounded
better with them on! (but i also did adjust to them being off pretty quick as
well) best of luck, and i just remind yourself in a couple of weeks you'll
sound fine and in a couple of years you'll have a great smile [;)]

Braces!
Ughh, Braces, You learn to live with them. They're as bad as
they seem. I love playing with my braces because it gives me a tighter embochure
and when I get them off I'll have a great embochure. Once you find where your
mouth feels commfortable, keep practicing it there. um.... I remember going
through this. It was three or four days before doing a concert and I had just
gotten them on. I hurridely tried all sorts of ways to hold my ebochure. I found
one, and it was to really lap my top lip over my braces completely, i think.
I've had these things on too long. Ne way, Do you have your bottom braces on
yet? That takes getting used to, also. I find that wax doesn't help me much,
actucally, it gets in my way and messes uup my tone and embochure even more. So
don't use it unless you really feel you have to. Also, brushing your braces
before you play helps a lot. I think once you play with braces on a while,
you'll get it. Just practice as much as possible and play slow music with long
tones to hear your tone and play around with your embochure. I promise that your
playing with braces will get much better and those higher notes will be able to
speak! Cross my heart. REMEMBER: PRACTICE PRATICE PRACTICE!!!! Keep fluting
