Yamaha 300 Vs 400 series

Post by tubbycub »

I am primarily a sax player who needs to double
on the flute, so I guess I will never get to play like Dave Valentine or James
Galway. Top end flutes are out for me. But I need one that is relatively easier
to play and yet capable of producing a rich tone. My requirements will be an
intermediate model with closed holes and offset G keys with C foot. So I am
wondering if the above options are ok as well as the differences between the
closed holes models within these 2 series. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

both 300 and 400 series have rich tone, though
300 only has silver head. the options are your own choice, so you decide [;)] i
think 300 series will do good, they sound NEARlY the same, but in the long run,
you will probably get a better tone out of the 400 series.. you pick! what do
you mean by the difference between closed holes and open holes within these
models?? open holes have a more projected sound, and you can do these fancy
fingering things; if thats what you mean. closed holes have a slightly smaller
sound, and you cant feel the vibrations in your fingers... i talk too much...

Kyzymunkey, sorry for the confusion, what I
meant was whether there are and differences (tone, ease of playing etc) between
the closed hole flutes within the 300 and 400 series, eg YFL-311, 321, 411 etc.
But I guess you have already answered my question, cheers! Open hole flutes are
out for me since I already have so many problems to face as a beginner
[:knockout:] and I don't want this to handicap me further [:)]

It is highly unlikely you or anyone listening
to you will hear any difference if you play on a 300 or 400 series Yamaha,
especially if they don't know which you are playing. B or C foot should not be
a factor from what you say. Offset is definetly a plus. If you only are playing
for a while in school a Yamaha 211 will probably serve you well and deliver on
all your needs. Get one on ebay for a couple hundred bucks and use the rest of
your money on another worthy purchase. I suggest going to a music store and play
test one. Tons of places sell Yamaha and will let you try one out. Not sure what
you think you will find in a new flute that your current one wont accomplish
