microphone would you suggest

Post by jumeetha »

What microphone would you suggest for a seven year old little girl? My daughter is turning 7 in a week and she loves to go around the house singing. I want a microphone for her, but one that is suitable for her age...Any suggestions?

I let this post sit for several days, so lets get started with the questions.

1. Is this going to be a performance mic, or a recording mic.
2. What kind of money are you looking to spend.
3. What is the deal with that age thing? Are you looking for something durable/cheap? Otherwise age will not make a difference.
4. What kind of gear are you going to use it with(Mixer/Recorder/Computer...etc...)

There are just too many types and brands of microphones to just pick one off the top of my head. Give me(us) more info, and I(we) can more assist you with an answer.

I live in a very very cheaply built house. And so there is always a bit of noise. My Corsair HS1 is simply unacceptable for audio input. And they plainly do not care. Anyone who thinks I am being unfair can check my progress on Corsair's own forums. All they ever do is suggest that you could have your settings wrong and suggest an RMA after that. They literally offer no attempt at help.

Here is the link to their audio forums.

Now I am looking for a microphone for a fixed location. Once I have it in place, I will not move it again in my lifetime except for cleaning. I need something that will produce good quality audio for speech to text via Dragon Naturally Speaking and other programs. Currently there is exactly nothing I have been able to do to get DNS to accept that my microphone is good enough.

Unfortunately I am wanting to keep my integrated audio chipset disabled if possible. Using my HS1 I do not need the integrated audio at all. So I probably would prefer a USB Microphone. Obviously I can skip that and re-enable my integrated audio so I can use the line-in or microphone ports.

My hands will not last forever, yet I suspect that I can still talk in decades.

I am not listing my system specs or a budget. This is information gathering. Tell me what you think is best or what you think I need to know. Thanks in advance.
