Powell Sonare etc

Post by Morne »

Hi all...

Just a quick question... I'm deciding between a Powell Sonare or an Azumi (by Altus). So far I have seen good reviews about the Sonare and not too many reviews about the Azumi. And what I can gather is that the Sonare body is made is the US and the keys are made in Asia...

Any thoughts about these flutes?? I have been advised to go with the Powell Sonare 700 series. (These are newer numberings from the first Sonares I think).

Thanks

Both Sonare and Azumi are reputable flutes. Azumi flutes are a bit more modestly priced and they are also a bit more popular. However, both brands are of similar quality. They have a manufactured body with a handmade headjoint. You can't really go wrong with either of them. If possible try them out before you buy them. Each flutist is different (and so is each flute), so finding a good match is important. Rarely do mail-order-type purchases work out for that reason.

Thanks for the reply Fluteguy18 :)
I will hopefully be trying out these flutes soon in Seoul. Then I can decide better. I will post my thoughts and how it went after. I'll be play-testing with a pro flutist as well.
