I tried the F# and if I've actually warmed up well with my harmonics clean, it comes out. I've never seen the fingering (if there is one) for the 4th octave G...Do you know one? (other than trying to F# lipped up or move the cork)

From what I have read, it is impossible to hit a true 4th octave g. Something about the harmonic qualities of a flute just wont do it. I have read of hitting notes higher (I actually found a fingering chart that has a few of them) that go up to about B4. I dont know the truth in this, but I will definately give that fingering chart a try soon.

Hi. I'm sorta a beginner well at least with high register.
So just wondering that sorta relates to this topic. What are some notes that are higher than the 4th Octave C; if there is, and what is the fingering?

There are :

C4, C#4, D4, D#4, E4, F4, and F#4.

Some say that is impossible to hit these notes without a B footjoint, however, I find it easier on a C footjoint (however the flute with the C footjoint was an amazing flute, but I would give them a try regardless of whether you have a b footjoint).

I think that is the right link. If it is a bad link, type in Larry Krantz Flute pages into google or yahoo, and his page will come up. Then go into the section that talks about lessons and techniques and such.... Then, just keep poking around in the fingerings section, and it will have a separate page that has a graph that shows the fingerings for those notes.

If at first you cant play them, then dont give up. they take practice. Here in my flute studio (in case you dont know, I am a flute major in college), the first chair flutist cant play anything above Eb4. Niether could my first teacher who is the applied flute lessons teacher at two colleges, and plays with the best orchestra around here. She could barely play the E4. I consider myself very fortunate, because I can play all the way up to the F#4. But it took practice to develope the right embouchure to play them.

I have problems with D#4

Granted, it could be the simple fact that I do not playe these nearly as often as I once did (please disregard this if you are one of my students

Any suggestions? Any other fingerings out there? E, F & F# are fine, but D# completely throws me off!

Totally off the subject, but fluteguy18, you have come a long way in the months we have seen you here. I just want to comment on how truly helpful you have become to so many, and I know you mean well. I have a few students who are looking into the FSK event in Jan. Maybe they will get a chance to meet you.

Again, any help on the D#4 out there? It is pretty frustrating when I an trying to teach someone and it won't come out

I think I remember another fingering sometime in my distant (too distant) past, but I can't recall it. This just goes to shoe that you have to maintain these things once you have learned them.

There are many, many fingerings for D#4 out there, and most of the time only one or two will work with a given flute. The most likely matches are at www.wfg.woodwind.org but that note is bugger even with the right fingering. I just recently found a way to play it on my flutes, though I can play above it without any trouble.

Flutiegirl-- Thanks! It means a lot to know that I am appreciated (here at school [in my own studio mind you] they think it is a little annoying that I know so much about the flute).

If you do have any students attending the FSK event let me know. Because we are the host this year I will be busy working the event, but would be very glad to meet them. It shouldnt be hard for them to track me down though..... we think we might have shirts that say "staff" and I will the be the only male flutist wearing one. But, the shirt idea isnt official, it is just a thought we have been juggling (along with all sorts of activities

)

If any of your students do come, they will have a lot of fun. I had fun last year at UofL when it was held there.
