Does anyone play the Violin?
I've always wanted to learn how to play the Violin and my dad recently bought me one. I love playing the flute and was wondering if playing a string insturment was more or less difficut? I play the guitar, but I think a violin is a little different. I start my Lessons next week and can't wait so if anyone plays could you please help me? I'm really excited.

Hellodie!
I don't play the violin, but I do play both the cello and the flute, and they are extremely different. The one standout thing that I think of when comparing them (which is true of any string instrument) is that with the cello, you need to focus so much more on intonation. While this is true of the flute also, there's a much bigger margin for error on a string than a wind...with a wind, you just put your fingers down and it's the right pitch pretty much, but with a stringed instrument, you need to have your hand in exactly the right place all the time to stay in tune.
That said, the other thing I would tell you is, above all, have fun with it. It sounds like this is something you've always wanted to do, so take it and run with it, and don't, for heaven's sake, get depressed because you aren't as good at violin as you are at flute at first.
Good luck and have fun!

I play violin and I would say I'm more of a "natural" on flute. I'm so used to changing tone and color with my mouth that translating that to hand positioning and bowing technique was quite a challenge. It's different for each person though and fortunately, violin is an instruemnt that won't mess with your embouchure.
