Experience is the best way to defeat nerves. The more often you perform, the less they will affect you. There are several other threads on this forum on the same topic. I suggest you utilize the search function. If you still have questions after reading the previous threads, or have trouble locating those threads, let us know.

Actually, that's what happened to me for piano. (I play the piano).
I go to a music school that offers programs to younger students so I tried out for the honors program and I practically freezed. Since I was only in 7th grade (that was last year) and there were students up to 12th grade (they were mad crazy crazy good), I was comparing myself to them and became quite afraid to mess up.
But after monthly recitals, I became less afraid. I usually get rid of the fear by forgetting all the technical mistakes you can make but rather enjoying it. Play it like you play it. (But I /don't/ mean play like you practice; that actually messes you up) Show off to the judges/audiences that you like this music and make /them/ enjoy. This helps a lot (at least for me).

Well..... first of all...... welcome to the board.

I have a few tips for you. Be careful how you word things on here, because intention is sometimes difficult to convey in writing. So, sometimes arguments get started on here unintentionally. So... if an argument starts, try to solve it quickly, and if it cant be resolved within 2 or 3 posts [try for less] send a PM [personal message].

I have learned this from past run ins and this is how I handle things now. Others can attest to this.

And, sometimes a PM is just the better thing to do from the beginning.

But, for the most part we are all really nice here. We do our best to help everyone out. Another tip is.... Multiple posts on the same topic, but worded differently dont usually get different answers. They tend to get ignored, or agitate people who are impatient.

But, overall.... welcome. It is pretty hard to get on someone's bad side on here, and we all have a little gem of knowlege to share. We all appreciate everything everyone has to offer. If someone's facts are slightly askew... we correct them politely with [usually very extensive] explanations.

Welcome! Cant wait to hear what you have to say!
