mexican flutes?

my friend is traveling to mexico city and is going to look for some flutes there because they are supposedly cheaper. does anyone know about quality and what not?

It depends on the brand, not where she finds them. You're bound to run into some good quality instruments and some bad quality instruments in a major city like that, but high quality instruments do not come out of Mexico for the most part. The majority originate in Asia (even some branded by American makers). Warn her to be extremely careful what she buys. If she can find a reputable make for a good price (at least one that's not counterfeit), then she's in business, but if it's some off brand, then she should be seriously concerned.
