Online Flute Music for Beginners?

Post by finallyflute-ing »

Does anyone know of any free domain (or just, you know, free) sheet music online for beginning flutists to practice with (preferably, if there even is such a thing, in the lower and middle octaves of the flute)? I don't have the first idea where to look for some and I'm looking for something to distract myself with when blowing long tones and doing half-step scales gets really repetitive.

If you're getting bored with the typical half-step tone studies, playing out of a hymnal can be a much more interesting way to work on the low/middle register. Just take the songs slowly and slur lots!! Think about your sound on each and every note, carrying the beauty of one note over to the next... just as you do in the tone studies. Hymns can be a real workout! :D

I agree. I keep a hymnal in my studio and often pull it out at the end of a lesson for some sight reading and duet playing. I have a few students who have hymnals at home and use them for warm up and long tone practice as well. You can also have a lot of fun with these songs! Try playing Amazing Grace with a little swing

Want to work on the higher register? Just raise the soprano line up an octave (or two).

Have a hunt around on http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/ - very good source for music (you won't be able to print off without paying though).

I heartily agree. :)
Hymnals are a great source for music. :)

there is also some Irish music online if you would like to give that
a try.

*sigh*
I don't have the bookmark on this computer, I'll try to get it to you
tomorrow.
So many instruments.... so little time.... :)
