In my opinion, it would be far better to save your money for something more necessary, like maintainance work/sheet music/a flute stand/whatever. As long as you have a cleaning rod, it should do the job regardless of color. I don't know of any purple cleaning rods, but there are some rods being made of exotic woods, some of which can have a purplish tint, and I believe flute flags come in purple.

I'd have to agree with that. I wouldn't suggest sharpie, though...Sharpies are not smear-proof, and you don't need to turn the inside of your flute (and likely the pads) purple by transferring ink to the cleaning cloth, and then on to the flute. Paint might be a better solution, but if you used a water soluble paint, you could encounter similar problems. I would not suggest going to the trouble or expense of trying to get a purple cleaning rod.FLflutist wrote: ...This topic seems rather silly to me

Yeah, uhhhhhhhhh, why exactly do you want a purple cleaning rod???? You might be able to find a cheap plastic one, though I wouldn't reccomend it. No offense but you will be the only one who cares about having a purple cleaning rod. Everyone will loathe you or be jealous....
