Armstrong 92b

Armstrong 92B - all silver tubes and plated keys - B foot - Offset G - Closed holes.

Does anyone know this flute - how is the intonation, headjoint and general build quality ?

To be honest, I haven't EVER heard of this flute. So, it is either a really old model, or a really new model. Usually Armstrong flutes aren't that bad. They are solidly built and are a decent deal for the money. I played an Armstrong 303BG [sterling head, silver plated body foot and keys, open holes, inline g, b foot, gold plated lip]. Not a bad flute at all. It certainly wasnt the best, but not bad either.

Back to the point. Going out on a limb here.... chances are, are that this flute is probably along the lines of the 80 series flute they stopped producing a few years ago. Those were rather nice [considerably better than the 303 series, but still not as good as a quality handmade flute] for their price.

Sorry I couldnt be of more assistance. If trying this flute is an option, I would recommend trying it. I havent ever played an armstrong that I disliked. But, there are definately better instruments out there if this one doesn't quite suit you.

The serial number can give some indication of how old the flute is. There are several web sites that have that info. If it was made prior to 1970's, I would avoid it. Otherwise, it should be a decent flute if it has been cared for. I would also assume that it was made during the period of time that the 80 series was produced, and those were great flutes in my opinion.

I have managed to get serial number and dated the Flute to 1987.

Depending on the condition, this may be a good flute. I would highly recommend playing it before making that judgement. No two are alike.
