I passed my grade 7 about 4 years ago, and am only just starting to practise again after a stint away.
I have a problem reading and playing faster pieces .. and when I'm playing at the local orchestra and it gets to the faster pieces I tend to just give up!
Was doing some practise last night, and I just can't seem to be able to read and play the notes at any speed.
Is it just a case of scales, and keep playing at a speed I can play the notes? Or is there any other way to improve?

Lou

When I see a big smear of black notes across the page, the very first thing that I do [while practicing], is get out my pencil.
I mark the upbeats and downbeats. I mark out groupings of either 4 or 3 notes. I then take the metronome and work it out slowly, and gradually increase the tempo.
I have found that this works wonders for me.
But, scale practice is also very important as well.
