Fish Are Jumping - Robert Dick
Hello, community.
I don't know how many of you saw this, but there is a flute contest going on over at http://www.banddirector.com/contest/
I decided to enter, and on a stroke of luck, I seem to have made it to the second round (Traditional Division).
The second round solo is "Fish Are Jumping" by Robert Dick. I can only find this recording of it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU8zSEsuiJA
As you can see, its a jazz solo with lots of stylistic oddities. I happen to be one of the odd flute players who decided to join Jazz Band at school, so I'm looking forward to this solo.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this solo and/or has advice for me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
An Excited Flute Player.
PS: Also, any way I can get the music without paying $20 for it would help too (I don't mean illegal, I mean discounts and stuff).
PPS: The only website I can find with the music (the $20 one) says it will take like a month to deliver. I can't wait that long. I'm getting nervous now... Anybody good at finding music?

Go to http://www.robertdick.net/
Then at the top, click the fourth circle (Music & Books), drag the slider on the left down until you see Fish are Jumping (fifth from the bottom), then click Buy Now. Click View Shopping Cart (at the bottom right) and then click Checkout.
Still $19.95 plus $2.15 S/H, but you shouldn't have to wait 2-3 weeks.
NOTE: This method does require a PayPal account to use, however.

That's correct.atoriphile wrote:I believe that etgohomeok is looking for the sheet music, not audio files.
I ordered it from Robert Dick's site a couple of says ago. I/m hoping it doesn't take too long because they have announced that round two videos are two on the 22nd.
Thanks for the help though.
Anybody got any tips on playing it? Particularly the slides and the note that is held for an inhumanly long time?
