Question About Wye Beginner's Book / Practicing

Post by cissypants »

Hi! I'm taking up the flute again after about 15 years of not playing. I bought Trevor Wye Beginner's Books. Both 1 and 2 after doing some research.

The books don't really appear to be broken up into lessons persay. How should I be grouping this? How long should I spend on each lesson. A lot of it is review for me.

Also, if I have about 30-45 minutes to pratice what should the structure be?

I would like to get some lessons in the future, but for the next few months I'm on my own and any help would be appreciated.

I would start by taking just one lesson for an hour or so with someone to pick the embouchure and air flow basics back up again.

As for lesson structure, when you're getting started, just try learning the fingerings of one or two new notes every couple of days then spend the rest of the time practicing them and playing simple melodies with all of the notes you know so far.

Once you've got lots of notes down, start learning scales. Memorize common scales like Bb, F, C, G, and D.

Once you get to the level of playing scales, you should start taking lessons.

If you've played before, it should come back to you as you progress.

Thank you, etgohomeok. I like the idea of taking one lesson to get me started and then working on my own for a bit. One lesson is definitely in my budget for now.
