Saying Hello :)

Post by tscotty34 »

Hey everyone.

Not sure if this site is directed towards one particular type of flute or not. I just recently started playing the bansuri, kiowa love flute, Shakuhachi, and some Native American flutes.

I've really just went over board on this new hobby but I have always loved the music from various types of flutes. I have even considered making flutes out of bamboo for fun.

Anyways.. hope to learn much from you all, especially how to control and gain deeper longer breathes.

Welcome! Most of us are classical flautists, but I'm confident there are a few native american flute players as well. I've actually never heard of any of those flutes by name, but I haven't been a part of the flute community for very long. As for breathing, there's plenty of good reading on that subject all over the forums. You might try using the search engine at the top right of the page to find it. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Wonderful, thanks for the reply. I will do the breathing search thing also. I actually want to also learn how to make native american flutes and bamboo flutes but I am having to take a crash course in learning about notes and scales. Its a wonderful healthy hobby though. Should be interesting and challanging I hope.

 You also have a wonderful avitar pic also :)

Take care

Scotty

I think there's room here to discuss all flavors of flute, so to speak.

As Flute_Star3 indicated, most of the discussion here centers on the classical flute, but I play a lot of different winds, too. Besides the classical flute, I play piccolo, tin whistle, recorder, Chinese Dizi, a PVC flute that I built myself, and other woodwinds. I'd love to see some other flutes discussed.

What I am hunting for is a very deep melodic playing flute. Thats why I was thining of buying the bansuri in tonic C#.
The Shakuhachi is really deep and melow but I want something with more range to it.
Can you offer any suggestions of the type of flute to buy?
