Is low D on the piccolo fingered as 123|123 or 23|123?

i have played flute for 6 years and piccolo for 1 1/2 years now. at first the low notes and high notes were the hardest, it just takes practice. what helped me was playing scales, it sounds boring, but it really helps. play scales that have low notes in them so you can improve your sound.
although the flute and piccolo have the same fingerings and same way of playing, they are completely different. it will take some time getting used to playing the piccolo and i suggest that you practice both the flute and piccolo at different times. maybe play one in the morning and one at night.

Long tones are good for developing the lower notes.
Do you know another experienced piccoloist that could try your piccolo to be sure it responds well all the way down to the low D? Piccolos tend to be much more sensitive to very small leaks and even brand new piccolos can sometimes get out of adjustment after leaving the factory.
