Just wondering, besides the differences in open & closed hole, how do the vintage Haynes Handmade and Commercial compare?
i.e., in sound, intonation, action...

Haynes vs. Haynes
I own a Haynes commercial model (closed hole, C-foot) built in 1929. A very well-respected flute teacher and technician who has owned and played a variety of hand made models, including recent Haynes offerings, tested my instrument. After playing my vintage "economy" model, he enthused, "This is the way a flute was meant to sound. Haynes had it right back then.". He added, "If I had to play just one flute for the rest of my life, I think this would be it."
Good enough for me!
