I have a Yahama 461H flute. I was playing in my community band last night when I felt a pop and it didn't want to play right. I realized that the screw at the end of the rod had popped out. (The shorter rod at the top end near the head joint.) I got it screwed back in and it did fine the rest of the night. I have been playing almost 15 years and that is the first time that ever happened to me. This is my third flute. Our section leader (Who has a Masters in flute performance and is a faculty member at the college) said to use clear nail polish on it and that would keep it in place. Would that work and would it make it near impossible to get the screw adjusted if a mechanic needed to? Would that mess up the silver?
Thanks!!

Nope. That sounds fine. It's a method that is commonly used. The acrylic (once dry) will be thick enough to keep it in place, but with a simple twist of a screwdriver, the acrylic will break. It shouldn't create any problems unless the nailpolish gets inside the mechanism. Even then, it would just take a treatment of nailpolish remover to remove it.
