I have a Gemeinhardt 2ESP and it has served me well. They are fine for beginners but i think that once you get to intermediate standard, a different brand would be a good idea. I am going to upgrade and I'll be looking at pearl, muramatsu, miyazawa, and yamaha. All you people who love your gemmies, have you tried other brands of flutes?

I tried a Gemeinhart but wound up buying a Yamaha 481. Can anyaone tell me if a "made in Indonesia" Yamaha flute is an "inferior" flute than a Yamaha made in Japan. Unfoirtunately, I did not know my flute was made in Indonesia until I received it.

The Japanese made Yamahas are always better, but I would not say that the model you have is inferior. Yamaha is one of the few companies that have a pretty strict quality control policy no matter where their stuff is made. I have seen Yamaha stuff made in China that was on par.
