Tell me what you think
Hi all. I am working on Handel's Flute Sonata in F Major... I posted a video of it on youtube and I was wondering if any of you would be interested in going to the video page ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ezSwd3a64 ) and telling me what you think. I hope to improve on this piece and I would appreciate any advise I can get. Thanks.
Hi again,
I had a few questions about this piece in general...
First, how do you do the trills- slow, fast, go to the note above or below? Are there any good examples of trills in sonatas (something that I could listen to) that I could use as an example to help me play them correctly.
Second, How should the ending go in mvt. 3? I feel like I am playing it wrong. When should I slow down... or should I even slow down?
Also, what do you do with repeats in sonatas? The 2nd and 4th mvt have repeats. Is it typical to do both repeats in each of these movements? Do I do something different when I repeat (besides slowing down at the end of the 2nd mvt, as written)?
Thanks

General rule of thumb, is on repeats u can add your own architectural aspects to the piece. For instance, adding trills, etc.
I would assume you have a teacher and will be doing some exams, based upon your post. Is your teacher not much help? If so, i would suggest a new teacher.
Another suggestion, is u need to add a little more of yourself to the piece. Dont play only what is written. For instance, several times i feel you get absorbed into the music, and your playing really reflects this. Then its like you start reading the music again, forget about it u already know the piece just play it.
Good luck!!!

As for the trills, u have to look at the flow of the music. Generally if the architecture at the point of the piece your trilling is increasing with sound u wouldnt trill down, however if the next note is a half step down u would trill down or up respectively.
Are u self taught? What is your warm up routine?
