What to play?

Post by lula »

Toward the end of May my band is going to have a solo night where all the members can play a solo of their choice. We are also allowed to do duets and trio groups if we wish. The winning soloist or group will recieve an award. I'm wanting to do a flute solo. My band director asked us to play something sort of challenging so we could show off. I don't want my piece to be too hard; keep in mind that I'm still in high school and I'm sure I couldn't play most of the things you guys can. Does anyone have any recomendations on what I should play and where to find it? I want to do good so I can prove to everyone how well I can play. Classical music would be cool, but I'd be willing to play about anything as long as it wasn't too hard. So if anyone has a good song that they know of and know where to find it, if you would tell me, I would appreciate it.

Songs for flute

Post by flutepower »

Hey lula,

A really beautiful song that I love is the song "Morning" by Edvard Greg.

Another great solo would be my all time favorite "Chaminade Concertino", but this one is very hard, and I can't play it yet

For some more info. I recommend the site 8notes.com. If you subscribe, you can get downloads from beginner to advanced.

Did this info help? I hope it did. :P

I love the Charminade Concerto, but it is way too advanced. Got any more songs that might be easier? I like both of the songs you selected but I'm not sure what I can play. I didn't look at Morning, but I might. I need more ideas please. :P

:P Okay, I listened to Morning by Edvard Greig and I fell in love with it. I may order this for the solo recital/contest. It says that it is 8 pages long. Do you think that is too long for a solo? I don't want to be up there for thirty minutes! But this song is pretty! Thank you so much for finding it for me. I hope this song will not be too advanced for me, if it is then I'm not going to do the recital.

:) Lula

Or Pavane,

I think the music is available at 8notes,

The pavane piece, is really very easy, however playing it really really well takes some practice. Ive always loved to play it, and its a really easy one for memorizing. I can give u a lot of tips on both the above piece if u want,

Good luck,

Hey lula, :P

You could download and print the song "Morning" from the site I mentioned above in only two pages. I listened to the piece and I believe it is 2 to 4 minutes, not 30 min.

If you really want to play this song, you should ask someone to make sure.
Here is a classical clip of the song, and it is 4.54 min. long only. I hope you play it - it is so beautiful I am sure you will win.:P

Their is also another really beautiful piece I've just found called, "Secret Garden". I could not find a free copy of this piece yet, so check it out.

Good Luck,

I envy you guys.
It's harder for me to get sheet music. I have to pay a lot more, because I have to pay for shipping. And now it could get hard to get things shipped here (stupid volcano in my back yard).

I tried Morning, I'm not advanced enough for it.
(sorry for posting laaaaaate).

Lily,

That's YOUR volcano that's causing all of this trouble? I think it's out of adjustment. You really should get that taken care of. It's making a big mess!
