braces?

Post by muzikislif3 »

Ok, I've had braces on for 3 years and I'm finally getting them off at the end of summer break. I noticed it didn't make much of a difference when I got them on, but what is playing the flute like when you get them off? Will it affect my embrachure at all? I know i spelled that wrong lol. about how long do you think itll take to get used to?

I just recently got braces and it effected my sound dramatically :( you're very lucky it didn't effect you when you had them put on! My teacher recons that as soon as they are removed your playing will improve and she said that after a few days of good practice it wil be back to normal. From her experience most people don't take as long to get used to playing without braces as they do when they get them. It's not garanteed that it wont affect you, but if you didn't find it difficult when you got them it's a good sign you'll be fine when the come off! :D hope it goes well for you xx

I got my braces of this past December. It felt weird for the first week or so, but the more you practice the easier it gets. Don't worry too much; you'll go back to sounding like you did or in my case, better. It will feel strange when you first try to play but do not get discouraged;it'll all work out.

I have braces to with rubber bands, and the bands
really wreck my sound. I was quite worried about
getting my braces off in a year, because I was sure
the long stay of braces would make my sound worse,
so now I am VERY relieved that it won't wreak my sound
getting them off!!!

Date is set. My braces are coming off on September 13th. I also have an important football game that friday because it's against our "arch-rival". Any advice is appreciated. Especially for learning a new embouchure fast!!

It's going to feel REALLY weird the first time playing without braces. You need to practice a little bit before the game. It'll take some time to get used to the new feel of playing flute; it sort of feels like your starting over again. It didn't take me long at all to get used to it. Good luck and have a happy marching season!

good news...getting braces off didn't affect the sound at all, well actually in fact, it made my tone quality better. i have to pull my flute out a little more because it's sharper, but my tone quality is actually a lot clearer :)
