How exciting !!!! It's always exciting to get a new flute. Please let us know what you think after you receive it. Carolyn Nussbaum (she services my Haynes) also recommended Miyazawa.
As for my new flute, Brannen is making it for me and I guess that's how long it takes. I remember waiting 6 months back in 1972 for Haynes to make my flute ... back then I was a high school student, and 6 months seemed like an eternity.
Good luck with your new flute. I'm sure you'll love whatever you end up with.
I have always thought that his flutes were very beautiful. Yet for some reason I think that I would probably hate playing one. I don't know why. If I ever become a flutemaker and branch out to form my own company... I will probably try to have a model with a similar concept. They're so nice to look at.
Gosh, those are really beautiful! But I wonder, too, how they are to play. I emailed and asked if he would do a custom lip plate design...I'm thinking an owl on a tree branch...I have a bit of an owl obsession

I have no idea how they play-- I would love to try one too. After playing a 'conventional' flute for so long it is hard to imagine if the grooves and whatnot on the keys would throw me off.
He does have an owl crown... and I would be surprised if he didn't do custom work. There might be certain limitations to the detail of the work, though. If you wind up getting something like that definitely post a picture! I love owls too.
