Help on a new flute?

Post by AurokeFlute »

i am wanting to purchase a new advanced flute for college. I currently play on a Venus open hole b foot. as you know it isnt a good instrument. i graduate this year and i need one for college, i am going to double major in flute performance and music ed. the brands that are good i know are:
Muramatsu
Sankyo
Miyazawa
Pearl
Powell
Yamaha

What models should i try, and any gold is out of the question, due to price. any others i should know about?

There is also Brannen, Burkart, Haynes, and Nagahara ... all Boston area handmade flutes.

I have a Brannen-Cooper Brögger Mekanik™ flute which I love, and a Haynes as my backup flute.

WOW! Talk about an upgrade!

Which ones should you try? All of them. Otherwise you won't know what you like.

I'd agree with Fluteguy and say try everything you can possibly get your hands on for awhile. All of those flutes will probably feel almost as if you are playing a different instrument (but in a good way) and it might take a little bit of time and experience with lots of flutes to really pinpoint what flutes and flute options really suit you the best. Also have tons of fun with it :)
