Welcome to the board. I started playing the flute last
Xmas at a much later stage in life that you (it can be done I think). I also
have a 2sp and so far am very pleased with it- it still won't let me play B3
and C4 but I am working on it (notice I blame the flute not me!). LOL about the
tormenting part, I have dogs and cats that run when I open the case- oh well.
Altho I have noticed that they are now starting to hang around more and more.
Things do get better. Have fun.

Interesting...my cat seems to be attracted to the noise.
Whenever I start playing long tones he claws at my door...
Haha, this one is my favorite:

My name is Vish,I am 30yrs old and live in the UK,
started learning flute a couple of months ago. Joined this forum last month. I
believe that if everybody were a musician and understood music, then there
wouldn't so much pain, hatred and unhappiness in this world. Music is a
universal language and whatever the materialistic needs be for the different
people, it brings joy to everybody.....OK...I am not a politician.[] I
work in a call centre..and love musical concerts/symphonies. I made my first
attempt to learn flute when I was 14yrs old. I gave up as I couldn't produce
any good sounds from the flute. I decided it was not for me.Then I tried again
when I was 20 yrs old. This time it was Violin. Soon I gave up after 2 months. I
realized no musical instrument was easy for me. [:((] A few months ago, I saw a
beautiful shining flute in a shop. It reminded me of my past. So I thought why
not give the flute a second try. Nothing is too late to learn in life. Luckily,I
found a good teacher in my location who seems to understand my psycho. Now, I am
playing it for more than 2 months. Though it is just the beginner's tunes and
the different notes. I seem to enjoy it. This time, it looks like I may not be
giving up so soon.....[;)]

I'm Alex, I've been playing flute for almost 8 years,
and just got my first open hole flute in february. I've been playing clarinet
almost 6 years, alto sax for almost 3 years, trombone for almost 2 years,
piccolo for about 2 years, euphonium for about a year, bassoon for a year,
mallet percussion for a little over a year, and I've been ringin handbells for
6 years. I'm self-taught on piano, but that for about 4-5 years. I know how to
play trumpet and SOME other percussion, but not very well. [:)]

Hehe, I know this (post) has been open for about a year, but I am called Nicki, I am 15 and have been playing the flute for 7/8 years. I currently play on a 2nd hand Yamaha but am hoping to get a new flute as soon as possible. I have auditioned for an orchestra, and would someday love to own a bass or alto flute :)

I'm new, too. :D

I'm Monika, and I've been playing flute seriously for 11 years (off and on for 16). I have a Bachelor degree in Music Performance (flute). I also play piano, handbells and lever harp.

I play a Yamaha 874H with their CY headjoint. My favorite flutists include Jean-Pierre Rampal, Alexa Still, and Emmanuel Pahud.

I've been teaching private lessons for 5 years, and especially love to teach beginning students who are still in elementary school. I start them out on the Yamaha fife or a Jupiter Prodigy flute.

I also direct a flute choir for young players. We have an alto flute, but no bass flute yet! :)

Hi Ernie from Gibraltar here.

Basically my background is pop/rock I play guitar, bass and piano, although I also studied a few years of classical piano/guitar and can read music pretty well.

I play in band doing parties, weddings etc.. and have been doing so since I was 16 or so.

Well so out of the blue I decided to learn flute. I always wanted to learn a woodwind instrument and saw this offer for a cheap starter flute on a website and went for it.

I''ve bought myself some books and also subscribed to the fluteland lessons so far so good !

I''m mainly self taught on my other instruments, and always seem going to lessons once i've "learned" to play so I thought i'd take the same approach.

Hi everybody, my name is Davide.

I started on C flute but I've been concentrating only on alto and bass in the last years. In my opinion they're more suited for jazz (my primary passion).
Here I am on alto on a playalong ("Circle" by Miles Davis). The video was shot by my 6 years-old son while I was recording in my bedroom, and then reassembled by me in order to avoid annoying long shots of my feet or belly :)

3 years ago I began doubling on sax, and I seldom take a stab at playing a cheap alto clarinet I bought on eBay (intriguing sound, anyway).

Keep up the good work!

Hi, all -

I see that the introductions string has been revived, so here I am: Kathryn, a clinical pharmacist. I started playing a year ago at the age of 59, and probably play as if I'd been taking lessons for about six weeks  - I think I'd have picked it up faster if I had started at the age of 9, like I wanted to (my parents said no - go figure) and if I didn't end up working 70 hours/week (sort of cuts into practice time!). Anyway, I have two student Gemeinhardts (3B and 2SP) and am in the market for something stunning, although at the rate I'm progressing I'll never outgrow the ones I have. I really like the lower register, so I just ordered an alto flute, which I have absolutely no business owning (given my abysmal performance on the C flute!). (Can you tell I like toys? )

Hi All,

I am a Church musician and have been playing flute for over 30 years! (wow, I can't believe that!) Anyway, I mostly play C flute but also pull out my alto flute for any particular music that just calls for an alto. I play in a contemporary ensemble and enjoy "weaving the flute" in and out of all the other instruments.

Hi all, another newbie checking in! :D 30 yr old living in Auburn, AL now, working for the university here, and wanting to take up the flute again.

I played flute in school, 7th-9th grades, and always loved it. I only quit band because of cruelty on the part of other students, nothing to do with music itself. Recently have started to wish to play again-- not professional or anything, just for my own enjoyment and relaxation. Found this forum while researching questions that have been answered here, particularly with regards to buying an instrument. Also picked up a book at the university library, How to Love Your Flute by Mark Shepard-- from 1980 I think, but very good book still, lots of great info. I think I've forgotten most of what I knew, but hoping it will come back quickly! I've also thought of trying the piccolo too. I do have a few other woodwind instruments still-- recorders, irish whistle, fife, and had a nice ocarina which broke; but those I just mess around with a bit.

Anyways, great place you have here! :D
