I was wondering...Okay, I''ve never seen or heard
a flute choir before and I was wondering how I could look one up in my area (to
see a performance) and also how do you think they compare to full band
arrangements?

Choir vs. Full Band
Do you live near a big city? If so, there is
probably a flute choir in your area, although I'm not sure how to find it. If
not, it might be difficult to find a flute choir. Some universities have flute
choirs. Music for flute choirs is usually very unique and wonderful. Definitely
a treat.

Choir vs. Full Band
I joined a flute choir in September. I had never
actually heard of (or heard!) one before but stumbled across this one on the
web. Mine is run through the conservatory of music. The choir I'm in is made up
of people of mixed levels. It's a bit frustrating for me since I'm playing
well below my level. Nonetheless, I'm enjoying it because when the group
finally nails a piece, the harmonies sound gorgeous!!! It's hard to draw a
comparison to band arrangments other than to say that, in a flute choir, the
flute is always the star of the show! In the pieces we are currently playing,
the melody shifts throughout, so that each player has the opportunity to take
the lead for awhile, regardless of whether they are 1st or 6th flute. This not
only makes the piece more interesting for those listening, but also for those
playing. When this year is through, I'd definitely consider joining another
choir...not this one though...I need to find people playing closer to my level
(not trying to be a snob here...just need to keep myself
interested/challenged!). Why don't you start by searching the web to find one
in your area? I'd also check with you music teacher, your high
school/university music department, and any conservatories in your area. Good
luck!
