Question about the scales: My Prima Sankyo was made in 1983 -- would that fall under the old scale or the modern scale? How can I tell?

After 1980, Modern scales prevail. You are fine.

Well, I'll be d@#@#d. I could have sworn I posted a reply to you Joe, but it isn't here!

I had always heard (and read in books) that the first 'American' flutes with the Cooper scale were made by Fenwick Smith when he visited Cooper. They were sold under the guise of Powell's name thereby making Powell (unknowingly) the first maker to produce Cooper scale instruments. I knew that Landell was one of the earliest to adopt it as a company in general though. I had just always read that it was Powell (although unintentionally).

Maybe that's where the confusion comes in. JL started at Powell too..
