Hey guys,
I am getting read to purchase a new flute, the old Trevor James has failed me for the last time. Anywho, I had my sights set on a new Yamaha 674 with B foot, C# trill, gold lip plate and some other things too. Before I go blowing my saved up monies I would like some suggestions on what other possibilities there are out there. (Play testing is a must and used is ok.) As it stands I was looking to spend around $3300 for the new Yamaha.
Finding a better flute used would be great as well. Also, I would love to find a flute that has a D# roller. Obviously I would prefer to play test before committing but not sure where to be looking. There's nothing really local thus I'm looking online. Miyazawa was suggested by some friends but I know nothing of this make.
Thanks.

Miyazawas are fabulous. I have more friends that plays Miyas than any other brand of flute. You can get a 202 model for under $4000, which is more than you wanted to spend on the Yamaha but it is well worth it. You get to choose a headjoint to go with the flute rather than taking the one that comes with it. The mechanism is so smooth: you barely have to press down on the keys to get a note out.
Ps. All Miyas come with a D# roller!

Re: Seeking Advice for new flute purchase
Hi,
Choose a flute based on others preferences is always risky. The best way will always be try playing, IMHO.
You should try stores like http://www.fluteworld.com that sends you a number of flutes so you can try them for a period of time, one or two weeks, I guess. If you like one, send the others back and keep it (and pay for it... . If you don't, just ask fore more...

Even though I'm biased you can get a lot of Pearl flute for that kind of money. Our Dolce and Elegante Series flutes are completely pinless like our pro models and you can get a lot of options, C# trill key, D# roller, Split E mechanism and even Solid 10K gold lip plates (not those plated imitations), all within your budget. Beautiful Wood cases with covers, etc.BlackSakura wrote:Hey guys,

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a flute that comes pretty close to pro flute standards.
