Unknown Elkhart Flute Manufacturer

Post by Deputy_Dud »

I am a saxophone player, but have been looking into buying a flute. I came across a flute today from a garage sale, and purchased it for 30 dollars. The condition was great, no dents and little plating wear, and all the keys moved well. It was very tarnished, which led me to believe it might be old, so I snatched it up. However, I'm unable to determine the instrument manufacturer. All it says on the body is 'Elkhart' horizontally on the body, and something small scratched out right below it. The serial number is 66159. Unfortunately, even given this information I figured that it could be any of the Elkhart music companies: Selmer, Artley, Armstrong, Gemienhardt, etc. And, searching through pictures, none of the flutes fit the description.

If anyone has an idea on what brand the flute is, I would greatly appreciate your insight.

Based on the styling of the keys I would almost be willing to bet money that it's a Gemeinhardt.

I was thinking the same thing. Occasionally, a flute will slip through the factory with no stamp. This could be the case here.
