From personal experience I can say that I would stay away from the
Gemienhardt. While I see you are looking at the solid silver head, body and foot
and I have no experience with those....I did buy my daughter the Gemienhardt
with the solid silver head, open hole, b foot just last spring and I we have come
to the conclusion that it was a mistake
I was a long time defender of Gemmys
up until the flute we bought last spring. I know that I have read online that
Gemmy student flutes are fine( my daughters was great) but their intermediate
flutes are not so great. In 1 year we have had to have 3 adjustments done on it
and sticky keys since about the 3rd or 4th day she had it home. At the time of
the most recent repair the technician told me that it was definitly a flaw from
the manufacture. I will be purchasing her a new flute this spring and it will
not be a Gemienhardt. Kim

hey.... here's some of your options. although, i would also
suggestion going to flutesmith.com and fluteworld.com and look at all of your
options. yamaha 461H (yamaha has different numbers for different options but any
in the 400 series have a solid silver headjoint and body.) the 461H is offset
and has a B foot (noted by the 'H') 481H is inline. these usually list for
around 2K, but most places sell them for less. the yamaha 674H is also a nice
instrument. it also has a solid silver headjoint and body, the different between
the 600 series and the 400 series is that the 600 series has white gold springs
and french key arms. also the 674H comes with a split E. i don't know what you
would have to go through if you wanted the 674H without the split e (it comes
standard on the offset) the 684H is inline and does not have a split e. these
flutes list for a little more than 3K but most places sell them for around
$2800. i really like the yamahas. new flutes under $3,000 do not come with
silver keys. and really doesn't make a difference

Hey Just the head joint of mine is solid silver but you can get a
yamaha with full solid silver flute. Mine cost $1500. The keys are open-holed
and it has a low "B" foot... it also has the gizmo key (helps play the B-flat as
an alternate fingering) and it has an off-set "G" key... (the left hand has the
third finger off-set to accomadate the length of your fingers) The yamaha has a
very rich and resonate sound... I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! [;)]

all i can say is that ebay flutes are not worth it. actually,
i've played quite a few flutes before...the yamaha worked really well and was
very responsive. i hated the tone of my gemienhart, and that one broke down
easily. had a lot of different artleys...they werent very reliable, but did ok.
all of mine were nickel plated. if i were you, i would go with an armstrong,
definetly.

Some flutes on ebay are great some are bad, some sellers are out
to rip you off some just good people that have a good product to sell. Armstrong
is not in the class of Yamaha

I suggest going to a dealer that let you try out flutes in their
practice room. About thirty minutes from my place, I have a SamAsh that lets us
test out the instruments you would like to play, and you can make your
evaluations from there. I sent you my recommendation of the Gemeinhardt
3SB(GLP), but since you're willing to spend under $3000 for a new flute, I
would suggest some low-end professional flute models like the Altus, Primo
Sankyo, or Muramatsu. Although it's the low-end of their line, their low-end
instruments are far more superior than any of the high-end instruments that
Gemeinhardt, etc, have to offer. You can check out wwbw.com for really low
prices, and they always have discounts, clearances, and sales. (Gemeinhardt,
included, because their company is only a couple of miles away from Elkhart,
Indiana.)

Yes good point Sukamato, a lowest level plated flute from one of
the top companies will play better than a solid silver professional model from a
Gemienhardt, Pearl or Emerson. So don't let sales people at a Sam Ash type
store flim flam you. Try out their product but be ware they are sales people not
necessarily your freind, and most likely not an expert.
