blood rushing to your feet?

Post by flute girl »

Sometimes when I play the flute for a long
time, my feet start feeling like itchy and tingly like blood is rushing to your
feet or something. Anybody ever heard of that or know how to stop it? Thanks! (
I practice while I''m standing up all the time cause it makes breathing
easier)

i know what you're talking
about....sometimes i get that too... i would suggest moving around while you're
playing not necessarily a lot but just enough to keep the blood circulating
through other parts of your body.

Hey maybe you could tap your foot too while
you're playing. It helps keep the blood flowing and also helps you keep time.

yeah, hasnt really happened to me before. i
have this thing that when my band director is about to give a playing test (or
even when we're all calm) my hands get these vein lines on them suddenly. is
the ventilator in your band room broken? that would explain it. ours is at a
constant 50 degrees and everyone has some problem. ooh, found a solution! if you
get your feet amputated, then blood wont flow to it.

ventilater isn't broken. I tap my feet ALL the time it's like a habit of mine.
I tap my foot EVERYWHERE!

You might try rocking forward-backaward
onto your toes the heels occasionally. This will cause your calf muscles to
contract and that will help force blood back up the veins in your leg towards
your heart. Also be careful and not lock your knees when you stand- keep them
bent slightly.

was in Girls' Ensemble at my old school, we had several girls faint and fall
right off of the risers because they kept their knees locked and oxygen
couldn't get all around their bodies. Try not to stand too stiffly and move a
little bit in between songs or something, if you can. You use a LOT of air while
playing the flute, and blood travels around your body with oxygen, and if it
doesn't get enough, you'll get funny feelings like the one you described.
