(This isn''t directly related to the flute,
but since this forum is "For Anything and Everything to do with Flute Playing
and Music"...) Lately my family and I have been enjoying- over and over-
watching the musical "The Music Man" on DVD. I also love the classics, "The
Sound of Music" and "My Fair Lady." Then there''s good old "Singing in the
Rain." What are some good musicals, or movies related to music, that you enjoy?

Yes, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and
"Rigaletto" are good, too! I didn't think of those. Shirley Temple movies have
some neat song/dance scenes, too. Whistler

I LOVE 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. How 'bout
that dance scene at the barn picnic. One of my favourites is 'West Side
Story'. Amazing score. Complex rhythms. Bernstein the genius. I like "An
Amercian in Paris" with some pretty jazzy stuff from Gershwin. "My Fair Lady" is
just an all time classic. I was the singing director for that musical for an
amatuer company. It was a blast. In college I directed "Little Shop of Horrors"
Very quirky. A little 'dark'. My all time favourite is probably the rock opera
"Jesus Christ Superstar" Heavy, sad material, but boy is there some rock songs
and some amazing vocal abilities needed. I'm surprised no one has mentioned
Mozart's "The Magic Flute" Keep listening to musicals. Question: What did
everyone think of Baz Lurhman's "Moulin Rouge"

I love Mr. Hollands Opus, and i think
American Pie is a funny band movie. But musical-wise, I like all kinds of
musicals. Right now im in the musical 42nd street, so im a little partial to
that.[]
