Gemeinhardt 4w piccolo

Post by GImom07 »

I am looking into buying a used one of these and I would really like some input. I will be using it primarily for orchestral playing and solo. I am in college, and I am hoping it will last me through college and hopefully a few years after that. Any thoughts on this particular model or Gemeinhardt piccolos in general?

The Gemeinhardt would not be my first choice, but some people like them. You owe it to yourself to try other brands before you buy. Yamaha, Pearl, and Di Zhao piccolos are in the same price range or less and all of those have gotten good reviews.

Thanks for the input!
I actually tried it out before I made my decision and I didn't like it at all, I am using a Yamaha right now and it's a much better piccolo in my opinion. I have now decided I'm going to fork up the dough and try out some of the higher end brands--Hammig, Zetner, Burkart Phelon, etc...and see what I like. I was thinking about trying to keep the price down...but forget it I need something that I will really be able to go somewhere with!
When in doubt, trill.

That's my sentiment too. I play a Yamaha YPC-62 with the wave headjoint and it suits my needs for occasional piccolo work. The others that you mentioned are fine piccolos suitable for a pro. If you have the bucks, go for it.

BTW, I like your signature!
