Hi, i''m a percussionist in our school''s band
and i''ve recently begun learnin to play flute. It''s kind of weird, but
i''m really enjoyin it. Is there anybody else out there like me, that plays

I started as a bass player (mainly Funk
and Rock) and after about 5-6 years of playing it completely switched to flute
(Classical, Latin, Jazz). It is simply a different voice - the flute simply
feels most natural for me personallt when I try to express something through
music.

the flute will make your mouth drop but I'll tell you anyway. . . Well it was
Saturday in summer and I was really bored. I wasn't practicing my saxophone
because I just wasn't motivated. My mom asked me if I wanted to play another
instrument and I said I've always wanted to try the flute. So we went out, my
mom and I, and bought a flute and some books. For the next 6 months I worked
really hard and in December when I asked my band director if I could switch and
he said no! I was really mad but I guess I'm glad it happened like that because
it made me practice the flute so much that in another 6 months I had learned
what some of the two year flutists hadn't learned. I'm now play the flute in
band and am VERY happy! [:p] So to make a long story short. . . I played the
alto sax for two years before switching to flute[:p]

I'm a piano/keyboard/singing teacher who
also teaches group guitar and recorder. Today my husband bought me a flute! So
guess who's going to learn that.? Looking forward to it very much. Hope it's
not too hard because I'm planning to teach myself. I've bee reading through
some of the comments so far and find them all very interesting, encouraging and
helpful. (Oh I also taught myself the clarinet - pretty good in the chalamuea
register, very squeaky in the upper register, haven't even attempted the top
register - I think the flute is more romantic than the clarinet.) I can play a
few notes on the flute so far - at least getting a sound - the fingering appears
similar to the recorder. Of course, it'll just be another side hobby. Time is
fleeting and too little of it. I have to admit that piano is my first love.
