Will playing the trombone affect how well I can play the f

Post by FlutiePebbles »

Hey guys- I''m
16, a junior in high school, and have been playing the flute for about 8 years.
My freshman year, for marching band, I took up the saxophone because a) I
didn''t want to be in a section with a bunch of out of tune piccolos for three
months [:knockout:] b) I wanted to learn a new instrument, and c) because it was
supposed to be an easy switch...and it was. Then, last year, they needed more
low brass, and there was a surplus of woodwinds, so I switched to trombone, just
for marching season--still keeping up with flute lessons and practicing because
I was preparing for All State. That was the only time when I ever played the
trombone a lot, but I also play it in jazz band...I''m not that serious about
it and don''t practice very much, so it only amounts to a couple hours of
trombone a week. I''ve heard that playing the trumpet can ruin your flute
tone...I was wondering if that was true for the trombone as well, or if it''s
different because a trombone mouthpiece is bigger than a trumpet''s, and your
lips are looser on the trombone. Anyone have any thoughts? ~*FlutiePebbles

Pebbles:
In my odd high school experience, playing trombone didn't really affect my
flute embochure (fairly loose and relaxed for both instruments), although
playing sax during a graduate woodwind program certainly was destructive!!
Playing sax appears to desensitize the upper lip, causing poor flexibility of
tone color variation.[;)]

Hi,
I've been playing the Trumpet and Flute for over 25 years with no problem. Also
play te Trombone from time to time. You do have to practice them all though. :)

I play
every instrument in band, (my mom's a director) and playing another instrument
never really affected how I played the flute.

My
aunty is a director, and i play all kinds of instruments, and i think, the more
you play the better you will get. You will read music better, and become aware
of articulations, and things of that nature
