Poll- What kind of flute do you have?
Congratulations to her on the new
instrument and great for you to care enough to buy it and to get the offset G so
she stays healthy and can play her best. Smart move. I thought they stopped
making 561 with a silver body 4 years ago. Must be some stock still floating
around, good find. The replacement model has a plated body. Its a nice
intermediate flute and being discontnued you probably got a good price. I
understand the new model has an updated scale. It shouldn't mean much to your
daughter unless she stays with it and becomes an advanced player and by then she
will need another upgrade anyway. Too bad she cant treat us all to a concert
tonight.

Thanks, I figured better safe
than sorry when going with the Offset G. The 561 was replaced by the 674 which
is solid silver also. It appears that the difference between the 2 are the
headjoint and the split E. I don't know about it being termed an intermediate
flute. Everywhere I have looked consider the 500 series pro-level. But that
really doesn't matter as she is loving the sound she is able to make with it
and I feel it is going to be more reliable than the Gemmy. The new scale really
shouldn't be a problem...we tested it with a tuner and with just pulling out a
fraction it is right on: ) I think this flute should suit her needs until she
hits college if she decides to include flute in her studies. I am not sure when
the stopped making them but I agree... I think it was a good find. LOL She has
been giving a concert since we got home. Kim
---------------- On
THE MYSTERY OF THE PURPLE FLUTE IS SOLVED!! I searched the internet for
some reference to a purple flute and found only one. You can get them on Ebay
for $120. I'm still not sure who the manufacturer is, but they do exist. You
can also get them in red, blue and green. If you're looking for a purple
violin, this vendor has them as well.

Searching the web to find my
majical mystical purple flute that makes me so special? lol You can anodize a
flute to any color or enamel it or other processes. Often pops orchestras have
red, white and blue flutes and other instruments for July 4th concerts. Its not
the color of the flute its the color of the notes

<<Its not the color of the flute
its the color of the notes>> So would you recommend that someone include these
painted flutes in their options when they are looking for a flute? We usually
recommend that people stay away from Ebay flutes but you seem happy with yours.
I was just thinking that they might be an idea for a flute ensemble or marching
band if you have had good luck with yours. Kim

Maybe the fact that the Muramatsu
costs double what the Yamaha does has something to do with it? You can get 500
Yamahas for under 1500, Muramatsu EX runs about $3K. The 561 is a nice flute and
will work well for a 12-13 yo( forgot how old you said your daughter is) for a
good 5 years until she becomes an advanced player. Even then the Yamaha will do
a decent job.
She chose the Yamaha because that is the flute that clicked with her.
The Muramatsu with the silver head was $500.00 more than the Yamaha 561 and we
did not hear a $500.00 difference in sound between those 2 flutes. We did hear a
$500.00 difference between the Yamaha 461 which has only a silver head though.

Yes, the price did play a factor
but the Muramatsu EX was 2750.00 and the Yamaha 561 was 2200.00 and we did not
hear a 500.00 difference and 500.00 is a lot of money to me LOL I am not sure
where you can find the 500 series for under $1500.00 unless it is the Allegro
series...those run about that price or possibly a used 500 series would cost
about that. Maybe things are a bit more expensive here but I know that
Fluteworld and Woodwind brasswind are asking 1966.00 for the 500 series. The 561
on the other hand has a solid silver body and is the equivelent of the new 600
series which retail for about 2600.00. My daughter will be 13 next week and I
think that we made a good decision. You are right this flute should do a good
job for the next 5 years and maybe for the rest of her life if she decides to
just keep flute as a hobby when graduating. Kim
Maybe the fact that the

Allegro series is only two models
the equivalent of the 471 and 371. They list for more than than the other 400
and 300 series primarily because of a longer warrantee and gold lip plate. Only
special dealers who pay a premium can sell them. Supposedly the quality control
is higher on the Allegro which allows the longer warrantee. Not sure if that is
just sales talk. The discontinued 561 is an excellent flute but hasn't been
made in 3(?) years. There are some still floating around. Yamaha claims that the
new 500 series is better than the old 500 series like the 561 even though the
new ones have a plated body. They made scale corrections as the old 500 series
scale was considered faulty. Scale is considered more important than silver
content. I think you got a good flute in the 561. I wont comment on how much you
paid because they are in limited supply now and discounts may not be as great as
they were. They were online for about 1500 when the were replaced. If she likes
it its a good flute for her.
