Music stands

I am going to get a music stand to make practices a little
easier. On the web the prices vary from $14 - waytoomuch. What sort of
things/features should one look for in a decent stand? Also re metronomes. Same
question; as prices range considerably what features are most important in a
decent metronome?

Depends what you are going to be using it for. If you're
just looking for one for practice, any cheapo stand will be sufficient (that's
the kind I have). [:)] Of course there are many fancy ones that are mainly for
performance or show. But if you are going to be performing somewhere, there are
usually stands available for you. Also, the cheapo fold-up stands are the
easiest to carry around!

Emily

Oops.. forgot to respond about the metronome. Cheap
metronomes are usually sufficient too. Really all you need is something that
goes "tick tock." [:)]

Its good to have a fold up to take places but they aren't
as stable as you would like so if its just for at home, I would suggest a more
solid stand. Its better to have two, a solid one for home and a fold up. If you
can only afford one the fold ups work out fine.

[/quote] Thanks f-diddy. good idea. I may go with just a fold up one and hope
that it is steady enough. I move from room to room to practice in so the fold up
may be nicer to tote around.

I have a metal fold up stand for use at home, and the few
times that stands aren't provided when I'm performing. I find it stable
enough.. I haven't had any problems with it. It's also easy to adjust to
sitting and standing heights depending on the use.
