Tarnish

My headjoint is starting to tarnish. What should I use to clean
it? I didn''t want to just use regular silver polish because I obviously
didn''t want to damage the flute. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi there, If your headjoint is made out of silver, well, then
use silver polish! Many shops like to use a German product called Wenol. I use
it, too. I put a bit of it on the tip of Q-tips and gently rub the surface of
the flute. Be sure to be extra-careful on and around the lip plate. Too much
pressure might damage the riser, that's why. Good luck!

I agree, but the only thing bad about Wenol, is that it takes
off some of the silver when you polish it. Becarful when using it, it does work.
Another suggestion, is using Rubbing Alcohol, that gets of some tarnish and all
finger prints.[:)] ~AJ

NEVER use silver polish on a flute! You will ruin it, nto to
mention, it won't last, and even when done by a proffesional, it can eat
through the metal of your flute creating holes where there shouldn't be any,
and that is a bad thing, and I'm speaking from personal experiance here. Any
music store that has anything to do with silver instruments should cary a
polishing cloth, all you do is just wipe your flute with it, only be carefull
around the springs. I believe LeBlanc makes a nice polishing cloth, they're
usualy yellow, and cost about $5, so that's what I would use, if you want your
flute to stay in one piece, or three.
