info on a haynes-schwelm flute

Post by mike »

My wife had recently purchased an old
Haynes-Schwelm flute. I’ve been trying to get some history on these flutes, but
Haven’t found much other than the company was founded by W Hayes JR and Mr
Schwelm- who worked for Haynes and later was the foreman at Powell. Can you shed
any more light? I’m particularly interested to find out if anyone knows The time
period it was manufactured. Any assistance is very appreciated. Here’s some
info: Details: FLUTE HAYNES-SCHWELM CO. BOSTON, MASS. PROFESSIONAL MODEL SERIAL
NUMBER 6146 C FOOT CLOSED HOLE REPADDED/OVERHAULED/NICE MECHANICAL CONDITION

This website seems like it would give
you your answers but I can't seem to get it to work wmshaynes.com/history2.html
It's info says... "I got my first Haynes in 1958, and since then, I've never
played anything else…"- Jean Pierre Rampal. History. Although the official
beginning date of the Wm. S. Haynes Company is 1900, its founder, William S. ...
Haynes Co. grew over the years, where people such as Verne Q. Powell, Arthur
Gemeinhardt, Nils Christensen and John Schwelm ... But the website is messed up
so the best of luck to you if you can get it to work, I'll certaintly keep
trying maybe its just my computer

I don't have any information on your
flute, but you could write to Haynes and give them the information and see if
they have any record of the flute and maybe they could tell you something about
it. There's no gurantee they have records of it, but it's probably worth a
shot... I inherited a Selmer piccolo that was a gift to my grandfather in 1937
(he played it in high school.) The is engraved with the name "Philipe Marcil". I
wrote to Selmer to find out about the piccolo, but all they could tell me is
that Philipe Marcil was a manager at Selmer in the 30's and they didn't really
know much more than I did about the picc... Anyway, good luck to you[:)]
