Solo?!

Post by flutist1 »

Okay so I have to play a solo for an audition to be the flute section leader at my school. I'm in 10th grade, but our band is made up of all grades 9-12. I don't exactly know what grade our band plays at, but, this year at our spring concert we played Semper Fidelis and First Suite in E flat. Plus, our marching band (I am also a part of that) played part of the Planets (we played Mars and Jupiter) by Gustav Holst as one of our movements for our show last year. I don't really know what solo I should play. Please help!

Do you need a peace for flute solo or an orchestral/band solo for flute?

I need a piece for a flute solo, if that makes sense. I need to play a song as an individual. I'm not sure what you mean by a band solo for flute. I think you mean a solo within a song for flute. If so, that isn't what I need. I just need a song that I can play by myself for my audition.

Then you could choose from:

Syrinx - C.Debussy
Sonata in A minor - Carl Philip Emanuel Bach
Partita in A minor - Johann Sebastian Bach
Images - Bozza
Piece - Jacques Ibert

And more to the contemporary side you also have:

Density 21.5 - E. Varèse
