Wiseman Flute Case

I was just wondering about these cases, I saw them via the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR_WUG5JY70

I just wanted to ask if anyone has had experience with them and more specifically if they had a catastrophic crash with them. My teacher suggested I ask around because it wouldn't be a big enough investment for the price, if the cases ultimately won't protect your flute if it's dropped in the case and suffer severe mechanical damage. I have had my flute in it's french case titanic-ed (no joke!) and shifted all my keys and wanted to know how this one faired.

They are simply incredible. Very pricy, but truly amazing. When I was at NFA this past year there was a guy talking about them and an incident he had with his. He played a solid 14k Haynes with solid gold keys as well. He was playing an opera and by accident dropped the flute (in the case) down 2 full flights of spiral staircase stairs down into the pit. Fearing the worst he went down and saw that the case had sprung open. Zero damage and it still played perfectly. His performance didn't suffer at all from the fall.

The manufacturer is about to release (or has recently released) an all carbon fiber version of the case as well. If you can afford the case and want to spend the money, you can't go wrong with it.

Well, Wiseman ought to give that guy his money back! (in return for a testimonial for their ads)

Everyone that I have talked to really likes their Wiseman case, but none have a story like that. They just feel that the cases are high quality and protect their flutes well. If I played pit gigs with dicey stairs like that, I'd probably get one too...

Hmm... Maybe Wiseman should shoot a video where they toss the case (with a flute in it) into the gorilla cage at the zoo... Afterward, they pan to Greg Patillo playing the flute while wearing a gorilla suit. That would be a fine marketing strategy!

FYI, here's the standard Weissman case. Solid, heavy, and also built to last long and protect. It comes with a soft, black-leather cover.

Doesn't look like I'm going to make any friends with this post, but here goes. I think the Wiseman's are gimmicky and only worth the money if you travel regularly with your flute. I have a few friends with Wiseman cases and there seems to be a few common issues. The biggest one, for me, is the friggin VELCRO! Try and sneak in late to a rehearsal with that... One of my directors had to have snaps attached to the end of the straps for additional hold because the velcro was starting to wear after 2 years. Also, where is someone supposed to put a damp cleaning cloth and tuning rod after swabbing??

On the other hand, after lugging around a contra in the Kingma flight case, a $1500 Wiseman looks appealing.

The accessory storage problem was solved in the newer models. The padded shoulder strap has a compartment for accessories. The newer ones also feature snap closure in addition to the velcro (if I remember correctly).
