Actually, the instruments I've seen that are clad
usually go out of their way to distinguish cladding from ordinary plating.
Muramatsu makes clad flutes (such as gold clad silver) but I've never heard of
silver clad keys. Usually keywork is either silver or silver plated, and I
can't imagine the usefulness of having silver clad keys (some one correct me if
I'm wrong). Makes me think krzymunkey was right, it's probably just silver
plated--the manufacturer just wanted to sound fancy. Cladding is basically
thicker plating after all. [:)]

I had always assumed that silver clad meant nickel
plating with a silver lacquer over it...anybody know for sure what it means?

I don't know exactly how flute makers are using the
term cladding. But generally in construction it refers to covering one material
with a different kind of material e.g. putting siding on a house= where a wooden
sided house is covered with aluminum etc. That is sometime referred to as
cladding. Just a guess on my part and using the above example --cladding would
seem to refer to covering a plated metal like silver with a "cladding" of gold
or nickel plating with a "cladding" of silver??? Mostly it may just be a way for
manufacturers to fancy up the word plating??
