Same headjoint on a different flute
I tried a headjoint at a flute fair i really liked, so I had them fit the new flute using that headjoint. The flute's being made right now, and I'm just wondering whether the same head would sound similar on a new flute (same metal, etc.). I've heard otherwise, and that would be a shame - would just like to hear your guys' opinions.

Considering that you're probably talking about a higher end flute, it's really a matter of chance. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It's very common for players to upgrade the headjoint and then upgrade the body later. I know a few members of this board have certainly done that. It should have some similar characteristics because the headjoint is the most important part of the sound, so it should be familiar to you. But the body makes a sizable contribution as well (maybe 20%) so it will bring its own attributes and flaws to the party. On the whole however I think the chances are fairly good that you'll like the resulting instrument. Congrats!

Thanks fg18. I'm really hoping the results will be positive because I plan to keep this flute for rest of my life.
