New year so a time to look at what I want to work on and improve.
Each year I plan to practise more etc. but I need to be more focused.
So each week, I will work on 1 scale ... and learn it inside out, become friends with it etc. Played full range, slurred, tongued, staccato and arpeggios.
If you want to join me, this week is C Major.

Nobody? Come on guys ... practising scales is the best way to improve your overall playing.
I spent about 20 mins last night on C major .. focused on 3rd octave for a while, as my fingers aren't as fluid as they should be around F,G,A,B,C.
Then, I listened for my tone, and finally some double tonguing.
Tonight the arpeggio needs help from Bottom C to E, and then top G to top C.

Re: 2014 Scale Challenge
Agreed. I don't always have as much time to devote to scales as I would like. The Tafanel and Gaubert is always good too. When I don't have the time to do either of those, I use a traditional vocal warmup method on the flute.zummerzet_lou wrote:Nobody? C D E F G F E D C
C# D# E# F# G# F# E# D# C# (or Db if you prefer to think flats)
D E F# G A G F# E D
Eb F G Ab Bb Ab G F Eb
E F# G# A B A G# F# E
F G A Bb C Bb A G F
etc. through all the keys and octaves. Only takes a minute or so to cover all the major keys and it keeps you on the top of your game for key changes.
Another variation is arpeggio up and scale down:
C E G F E D C
C# E# G# F# E# D# C#
etc.

Thanks for the inspiration. I suppose I should jump on board.

As a new player to flute this would be invaluable! I"m totally onboard with you! Great idea!
