Ferree's E100 Flute Key Arm Bending Set?

Post by TomJ »

Hi,

Does anybody have instructions or a description of how to use this? I've seen it from time to time in the Ferree's catalog but I can't find anything about how to use it. Would you recommend it?

What exactly do you need to know? I designed that tool, Gary Ferree borrowed my set and Curtis made some prototypes to my specs? It allows you to change a key angle safely, off the flute. Generally it's used to repair damage, or flattening out bent key cups. It assumes you understand quite a bit about about flute padding before you use it.

Basically, the pad cup die goes in the cup to maintain its shape. The key cup is then held in a vice, material provided to protect the key cup. Then you tap on the y-arm to change the key angle, depending on which way you need to go..

I've been wondering about that tool. They didn't have it at Red Wing, and I've not had anyone yet explain it. Very cool.

Ah, I think I see. Makes sense. The catalog says something about "dialing in" the attack angle, which I guess means something along the lines of "hit it harder to adjust it more!"

Yes, exactly, A little tap goes a long way!
