hi there everyone
I'm a beginner flutist and also started with the piccolo lately.
I feel that my ears have been a little damaged from both instruments!
since that I'm still a beginner I work a lot on tone development, and when using ear-plugs it's a little hard to really notice tone quality and air-pressure. But on the other hand - I must use them to protect my hearing.
I'm sure some of you are experienced with this...
how can I protect my hearing but also improve my tone and playing to become beautiful?
thanks alot -mai
how to listen carefully though using ear-plugs? important!

Perhaps it could also be the area in which you practice in. Are you getting a lot of feedback or echo? Try practicing in an open area. Ear plugs are a very good idea when practicing the piccolo, but you shouldn't be damaging your ears with the flute (unless U R up in the 3rd register).
Try going outside, or into a large carpeted room.
