Hi, everyone. I started playing the flute a couple years ago after not playing for 45 years. I purchased a new Gemeinhardt 2SB that was made in China apparently. I should have done my research.
I am looking for a step up flute and was thinking of an open hole with a B footjoint. Someone who is in our community band told me that I would not like the B footjoint as it is a longer reach with your pinkie finger to hit D flat or C. I knew that it was a longer footjoint, but did not realize the reach was longer also. Is this accurate info? Also, do most advanced flutists use a B footjoint instead of a C footjoint?
Thank you!

Re: B footjoint vs C footjoint
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of wrong advice people can give.
The touch pieces for the little finger are in exactly the same location for both the B and C foot joints. The B foot joint is little longer and it adds a very small amount of weight but it does not change the reach for the little finger.

Thank you pied_piper! I'll be seeing that person in rehearsal tonight, and I'm going to ask her nicely where she got her information from. I'm really enjoying playing again, and I want to be sure that I do not make another mistake in purchasing a new flute.
